The Last Caretaker

What will Kentucky Book Festival visitors find on your table?

I’m excited to be here with not one but two new novels since I last attended KBF: The first, THE LAST CARETAKER, was an Amazon Editors’ First Reads selectionin November 2023 and an instant USA Today bestseller. It’s an empowering read about a woman who takes a job as resident caretaker on a nature reserve, only todiscover her new home hides a safehouse that is part of a secret network that helps women on the run from abusive men. And my latest, CATCH YOU LATER, is anew release October 22, 2024. It’s the suspenseful story of two best friends who work at a travel stop on I-75, going nowhere fast—unti the night one of them getsin a stranger’s car bound for the coast, never to be seen again. Eight years later, the friend left behind is finally getting her life back together when she recognizesthe same driver and reignites her search.

Whom do you invite to stop by? Who will benefit from reading your book?

My novels are popular book club selections, because my characters grapple with big, life altering questions in suspenseful scenarios that leave readers with a lot to talk about. They appeal to readers of suspense as well as character-driven contemporary fiction, and many are set around the Ohio/Kentucky area.

Could you please tell us something curious about you and/or your book?

I began my career as a magazine journalist (many readers know me as the former chief editor of Writer’s Digest magazine) so I don’t shy away from the research aspect of writingfiction outside of my own life experience. I’ve written about musicians, end-of-life doulas, live organ donation, and much more.

Is this your first time participating in Kentucky Book Festival? If yes – what are you looking forward to the most? If you’ve participated before –what was your favorite experience at the Festival?

I’ve participated in the Kentucky Book Festival several times before, and I love the wide range of talent this event brings to our region: I leave having met a newfavorite author, year after year.
