I received an M.F.A. in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Hamline University and won the Karen and Philip Cushman Late Bloomer Award from SCBWI for a nonfiction work-in-progress. I worked as a Children’s Librarian for 20 years before turning to my lifelong dream of writing for children. My first book HER EYES WERE ON THE STARS: Nancy Grace Roman ‘Mother of Hubble’ Space Telescope, came from my love of science and biographies. It was named a KIRKUS 2024 Best Indie Book, among other awards . EVERY CREATURE EATS: A Witch Fest, was inspired by hosting many years of a Mad Scientist Lab at Wright Library at Halloween.

Malachy was never meant to end up at the bottom of Lake Burion as part of the enchantment, though, honestly, I couldn’t say I’m surprised. It’s what I’d expect from a fairy like Carabosse. She has no self-control. The only reason King Geoffrey isn’t at the bottom of the lake, too, is because Carabosse enjoys seeing him squirm. Fairy Queen Oona tried to get Carabosse to make peace with King Geoffrey time and again, but both were too pigheaded in those days. All these magical enchantments took their toll on the innocent villagers. They found their way to the little cabin in the woods where I lived with Maeve and Tom. And although the coming events took up a great deal of my nap time, the circumstances led to meeting Princess Camellia. Believe me, I could have traded in my three remaining lives and gone to kitty-heaven right then.
