When Whippoorwills Call is a book that takes the reader on a journey. The physical journey is from the West Coast of the USA to the hills of Kentucky. The purpose of the journey is motivated by the term “back to the land.” This is the author’s story of leaving the relatively comfortable life of electrical power- driven appliances to living in the woods in primitive conditions sans electricity. The author writes about the movement from the woods and the subsequent musings on the period of time spent working and living in what most would consider primitive conditions.
