Beware the Tall Grass

What will Kentucky Book Festival visitors find on your table?

I plan to have bookmarks with the cover image and a stand with information on the book, summary and blurbs.

Whom do you invite to stop by? Who will benefit from reading your book?

I will extend an email invitation to my Lexington friends and family in advance and offer a warm welcome to passersby who are curious about the book. I am not shy and was told by a table mate at AWP that I was good at engaging people. I think readers who are interested in family dynamics, motherhood, the Vietnam War and past life memories are a good fit. I have interest from mothers and veterans.

Could you please tell us something curious about you and/or your book?

The novel was inspired by a 2014 NPR story on a program at University of Virginia that explores children with past life memories. This program was the subject of a recent Washington Post article that created a lot of buzz. I was a debut novelist at 58. The book won the Donald L. Jordan Prize for Literary Excellence judged by Lan Samantha Chang of the Iowa International Writing Program.

Is this your first time participating in Kentucky Book Festival? If yes – what are you looking forward to the most? If you’ve participated before – what was your favorite experience at the Festival?

I participated in 2022, I think. It was a great pleasure to interact with the public and connect with fellow writers. I enjoyed the panel discussions and would love to particpate in one of those.
