Of Fathers & Gods

What will Kentucky Book Festival visitors find on your table?
My debut book! It’s a short story collection titled Of Fathers & Gods, a collection of nine stories that delve into the relationships between fathers and their children: the good, the bad, and the awful. Everyone purchasing a copy of the book will also get the bonus short story “The Trio” as an accompanying chapbook. I’ll have a gift for anyone stopping by to browse, ask questions, or chat. And chocolate. Did I mention chocolate? The good stuff, too.

Whom do you invite to stop by? Who will benefit from reading your book?
Anyone who enjoys well-crafted literary fiction that evokes strong emotions. Especially fans of the Southern Gothic work of Flannery O’Connor, or the Gritty Realism of Raymond Carver, Denis Johnson, and Donald Ray Pollock.

Could you please tell us something curious about you and/or your book?
I’m a bit of an oddity as a “late-in-life” author with a debut book. Better late than never, right? But please stay tuned, I have a newly finished novel I’m currently submitting to agents and publishers, so hopefully you haven’t heard the last from me.

Is this your first time participating in Kentucky Book Festival? If yes – what are you looking forward to the most? If you’ve participated before – what was your favorite experience at the Festival?
Yep, first time. I’m honored and thrilled to be invited. I very much look forward to meeting avid readers who enjoy discussing all things fiction, as well as meeting and networking with fellow authors from this region and beyond.

About the Author

A full-time writer who splits time between Ohio and Texas, Jim Roberts has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, a finalist for the Screencraft Cinematic Short Story Award, and longlisted for both the Santa Fe Writers Project Short Fiction Prize and the W.S. Porter Prize. His debut short story collection, Of Fathers & Gods opens a window into the most primal elements of the human condition and shows us how, try as we might, we can never fully escape the bonds of parent and child.
