What will Kentucky Book Festival visitors find on your table?

On my table, you’ll see three sci-fi books for young adults: UNREGISTERED, UNAFRAID, and UNDONE. Together, they’re a series called Children of the Uprising, a dystopian story of a little band of outsiders who take on an oppressive and controlling government.

You’ll also see bookplates with a pre-order QR code for my newest release, a middle grade horror story called BONE CARNIVAL. It’s a story of a gelato-fueled chaotic 12-year-old girl named Mia, who is spending the summer in Rome. There, she stumbles upon a ghostly street fair, wins a cursed prize, and things unravel rather spookily from there!

Whom do you invite to stop by? Who will benefit from reading your book?

If you’re a kid who loves to read and is ready for big ideas, I want to meet you. In my series, Children of the Uprising, there’s adventure, technology, romance, and an examination of social sciences. In my middle grade novel, BONE CARNIVAL, there are spooky elements, an overseas setting, (though the main character is from Louisville!) and some interesting historical details. If any of that sounds interesting to you, I think you’ll like my table.

Could you please tell us something curious about you and/or your book?

I went to the Kentucky Book Festival for the first time with my Mom when I was in middle school in the late ‘90s, and it changed my life! I met an author there named L. Walker Arnold, and read his book, A GIRL NAMED CANDY, so many times that the cover fell off. I think being present at the Kentucky Book Fair, surrounded by books, authors, and people who loved literature was really powerful for me at that age. It’s when I first really saw myself as a reader, and was able to envision myself as a writer.

Is this your first time participating in Kentucky Book Festival? If yes – what are you looking forward to the most? If you’ve participated before – what was your favorite experience at the Festival?

This is my second time participating in the Kentucky Book Festival. The best part of my first experience was meeting new writers and encouraging them to really go for it.
