What will Kentucky Book Festival visitors find on your table?
A collection of short stories authored by Appalachian Kentucky youth who are part of the Appalachian Career Training in Oncology (ACTION) program through the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center. These are fictional stories inspired by students’ experiences and understanding of cancer’s impact on families and communities. Readers will gain an appreciation for what youth in the region think about cancer in Appalachian Kentucky.
Whom do you invite to stop by? Who will benefit from reading your book?
We invite everyone who has been affected by cancer or has a love for the Appalachian region of Kentucky and wants to combat the high rates of cancer in their home community.
Could you please tell us something curious about you and/or your book?
Our student authors are high school and undergraduate students from all over Appalachian Kentucky and are training to become future medical and/or research
professionals. These students are not only intelligent, but highly creative and spent over a year editing and perfecting their story contribution.
Is this your first time participating in Kentucky Book Festival? If yes – what are you looking forward to the most? If you’ve participated before – what was your favorite experience at the Festival?
Yes, this is our first time participating in the Kentucky Book Festival and we are looking forward to seeing other creative minds and works highlighting Kentucky.
