Controlled Conversations

What will Kentucky Book Festival visitors find on your table?
Books. 🙂 I will bring a limited number of bookmarks as a give-away. There is also going to be a printed book club discussion guide for those who would like one. Finally, I hope to have a mailing/email list signup sheet.

Whom do you invite to stop by? Who will benefit from reading your book?
Adult readers curious about human decisions in times of struggle and repression. Readers who will appreciate a mix of genres–a literary novel with thriller and historical fiction elements. Finally, readers who support equality for people of all sexual orientations and genders.

Could you please tell us something curious about you and/or your book?
I was born and raised in Poland and witnessed the events serving as the background for the story as a teen. I have now lived in the U.S. longer than I did in Poland. While Polish is my mother tongue, I write in English, which makes me an exophonic writer.

Is this your first time participating in Kentucky Book Festival? If yes – what are you looking forward to the most? If you’ve participated before – what was your favorite experience at the Festival?
This will be my first time. I have no idea what to expect and am really looking forward to all the surprises. I also look forward to the opportunity to speak with readers.

About the Author

A native of Poland, Karol Lagodzki has fixed stucco while dangling from roofs in Paris and sorted through human cadaver heads in Florida, but his true ambition is to remain a student for as long as he possibly can. His debut novel, Controlled Conversations, challenges readers with the question of what separates people who transcend their fear and take risks for the sake of change from the rest of us.
